I first became interested in music at the age of eight when I began learning the piano. Upon starting at secondary school I began learning the clarinet. After a couple of years learning the clarinet I began teaching myself the tenor sax, and during my time at secondary school I became involved in various ensembles, with the occasional gig. As well as the tenor saxophone, I went on to play the alto and soprano saxophone as well, and these are the two saxophones I now specialize in.
At the age of twelve I began lessons on the piano with a new teacher specializing in synthesizers and keyboards. For the following five years I continued these lessons gaining experience in sequencing and various keyboard techniques.
Since the age or twelve I have been a composer and songwriter and in 1997 I recorded an EP of my own original material with a band formed at that time, 'The Fallen Angels <http://www.paert.com/solutions/tompsett/audio.htm#fallenangels> ' It was recorded at a professional recording studio in Oxfordshire, I produced and assisted engineer all the songs on the EP.
I am currently having saxophone lessons with jazz saxophonist Mornington Lockett. Visit him online at http://homepages.enterprise.net/bernardp/mlockett.html
Having just finished my degree at Kingston University, now comes the time where I start to look for work. Throughout my three years at University I have steadily built up more and more work in terms of gigs, session work and teaching.
In the first two years at Kingston, the gigs I played were for a number of different bands, and it wasn't until my third year in October 1999 when I got the job as the alto saxophonist with 'The Blunter Brothers <http://www.paert.com/solutions/tompsett/contact.htm#blunter> '
As well as gigging regulary with the Blunter Brothers I am a member of a projessional jazz ensemble that are available for work. (Contact <http://www.paert.com/solutions/tompsett/contact.htm> / Audio <http://www.paert.com/solutions/tompsett/audio.htm#jazzensemble> )
I am currently in the process of building up my own agency that organizes musical entertainment for function work. (Contact <http://www.paert.com/solutions/tompsett/contact.htm> )
I have been teaching saxophone, clarinet and piano/keyboard professionally now for about a year. I specialize in teaching jazz and improvisatory techniques. Click here <http://www.paert.com/solutions/tompsett/contact.htm> to contact me.
My plans for the immediate future are to stay in London and continue working as I have been with a view to building more work now that I have no University commitments.
