Jools has many years of experience in live music, having performed since the age of about fourteen years old. Over the years he has had extensive recording experience and has appeared on many albums as well as his own original productions. He spreads his time between teaching, composing, recording and playing live, not just with Dj:2 as a duo and trio but also with Hangon: a world music project.

In 2004 he completed a film score for an independent producer. In a recent review of a gig at the Grove Inn, Leeds, UK it was said: "(Bryan Davis) was complimented by Jools Slater's warm, round and full-bodied tenor sound. Special feeling was put into his version of "Summertime," a beautifully embellished featured performance that was touchingly memorable."
