The oboist Dimitris Kitsos was born in Thessaloniki-Greece in 1971. He studied in State Conservatory of Music in Thessaloniki under Michai Doroftei oboe and has also taken superior theoretical lessons. He finished his studies taking the highest grades. He continued his studies in the “Folkwang Hochschule für Musik und Theater” in Essen-Germany under Prof. P.W.Feit with the highest grade "sehr gut" and graduated also "Konzertexamen"- Soloistic Diploma and "Kammermusik" studies winning the greatest prize was ever given. To his mentors belong: Thomas Indermühle, J.L.Capezzali and Maurice Bourgue.
He has been scholar stipendiary of the “Onassis Benefit Foundation” as well as of the “Society of Friends of Music-Athens”.
In 1993, he won the 1st Prize, in the International Chamber Music Competition-Helexpo in Greece, which was given for the first time.
In 1994, he received the Prize of the best oboe player in the “F.H.E.” Competition in Germany.
In 1995, he won the 2nd Prize in the International Oboe Competition “Fernand Gillet” of the I.D.R.S. (International Double Reed Society).
Dimitris Kitsos has also given Master Classes in the universities of “Taipei”, in Taiwan and at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki.
1994-2000, Dimitris Kitsos was teaching at the “Folkwang Hochschule für Musik” in Essen (Germany).
Dimitris Kitsos has been member of the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of the European Union and since 1994 Solo-Oboe player of the State Symphonic Orchestra of Thessaloniki. He has been substituting in WDR Symphony Orchestra, in Kammerphilharmonie Salzburg and Camerata Athens.
Since 2001, Dimitris Kitsos is teaching at the "Conservatoire de Thessalonique" and is responsible of the woodwind department. He has given solo concerts and recitals in many important concert halls such as: ”Konzerthus” Oslo/Norway, “National Hall” Taipei/Taiwan, “Megaron” Athens/GR, “Reidtstadl” Neumarkt/Germany, “Berliner Philharmonie’, “Villa Musica” Mainz/Germany, “Chamber Music Hall of the Bavarian Radio”, “Neue Aula” of the Folkwang Hochschule, “National Theater” of Thessaloniki, “92Y-Kaufman Concert Hall” New York/U.S.A., “Schloss Kromeriz” Czech Republic, “Palais-Attemps” Graz/Austria. Dimitris Kitsos has been invited to play in many important Festivals: “Bain de music” Flaine/France, Portogruaro/Italy, “Dimitria” Thessaloniki/GR, “Festival for Modern Music” Mönchengladbach/Germany, “Festival for Chamber Music” Megaron/Athens/GR, “Forfest” Czech Republic, “Styriarte” Graz/Austria. His soloistic and chamber musical appearences, not only with the two ensembles he founded -“International Wind Quintett” and “Trio Reinecke”- but also with many other musicians are extensive: Richard Studt, Leonidas Kavakos, Janna Polyzoides, Prof. Polyzoides, Peter Nagy, Michel Arrignon, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Nobuko Imai, Lars Anders Tomter, Miklos Perenyi and the conductors: Olaf Koch, Laureant Petitgirard, Jörg Iwer, Vladimir Askenazy are some of them. Recordings for the Greek Radio and Television as well as for the West-German (WDR) and Southwest-German (SWR) Radio. 3 CD recordings with works of R.R.Benett, Th.Lalliet, A.Vivaldi, E.Bozza, J.S.Bach, R Schumann, J.Pixis and with chamber music of L.v.Beethoven. Intensive occupation with modern music. Premieres of works composed by G.Schillings, Chang Fa-Yu and Nikos Skalkottas. Performances of works by Günter Becker and Jürg Baur. Dimitris Kitsos is artistic and music director of the "
Orpheus Soloists".
