Stephen studied with Susan Milan at the Royal College of Music where he was winner of both the Allen John Warren and Geoffrey Tankard Prizes for wind playing.
 
As well as teaching at St Paul's School, Barnes, Stephen has taught at the University of North Texas (Teaching Fellow), Hindhead School of Music, Harrow School for Young Musicians, Ealing Junior Music School and has covered temporary posts at Oundle, Felsted, The Purcell and Sevenoaks Schools.
 
As an orchestral musician Stephen has worked as principal flute with The London Arts Orchestra, Holland Park Opera and European Chamber Opera and as a freelance player with many orchestras and ensembles including D’Oyly Carte Opera, CBSO, The Philharmonia and the West End production of Mary Poppins.
