His musical activities have taken him to many countries; Germany,
France, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Poland,
Czech Republic, Switzerland, Japan, USA, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

He has appeared with various European and American Orchestras such
as Radio Symphony Orchestra of Frankfurt, South West German
Philharmonie, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of
Budweis, International Festival Orchestra and International Academy
Orchestra in Bayreuth under conductors such as Rudolf Barshai, Hugh
Wolf, Jonathan Nott, Jose Luis Ascencio and Christian Arming.

Hernando Leal has performed at important music centres such as the
Salzburg Music Festival (Austria), New Music Festival of Darmstadt
(Germany) and Idyllwild Arts Music Festival (USA) .

He has been guest performer at the National Flute Association of
USA, International Flute Festival of Quito and Simposio
Internacional de Flautistas in Lima.

Hernando has appeared also in Major European, American and Asian
Concert Halls such as the Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth,
Festpielhaus Bregenz, Royce Hall of Los Angeles, KKL and Opera of
Lucerne, Casino of Bern, Tonhalle Zürich, Auditorio Nacional and
Teatro Real of Madrid, Palau de la Música of Valencia, Teatro
Nacional Sucre of Quito, Luis Angel Arango Hall of Bogotá, Instituto
Norteamericano of Lima, Matsumoto Bunkak Aikan Concert Hall and
Hiroshima City Hall in Japan.

His teachers have included Sir James Galway, Peter-Lukas Graf, Anna
Katharina-Graf, Mathias Ziegler and Karl Kaiser.

He studied Flute in Spain, Switzerland and Germany at the Hochschule
der Künste Zürich, Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst
Frankfurt and the Musikhochschule Luzern receiving the Pedagogy,
Performance and Soloist diplomas. He also completed studies in
Conducting. He attended Masterclasses at important music academies
including Siena, Hammelburg, Nice, Sermoneta, Veszprem and Lucerne
with Auréle Nicolet, William Bennett, Emmanuel Pahud, Patrick
Gallois, Barthold Kuijken, Janos Balint, Jeanne Baxtresser and
Maxence Larrieu.

He has been a prize winner at different Music Competitions and
Festivals for Traditional Music. He also received the Carolina
Oramas Scholarship and Special prize at the Mazda Young Musician
Competition. He was semifinalist at the International Flute
Competition in Krakow, Poland.

He gives masterclasses at different Universities and Flute Festivals
in Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.
He founded the National Flute Academy of Colombia.
