Flautist Hernando Leal was born in Colombia from a music family. After his Flute studies in Bogotà (Universidad Nacional) and Spain, (Madrid, Bilbao and Santander) he studied in Switzerland at the Musikhochschule Luzern and in Germany at the Hochschüle für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main receiving his Orchestra, Performance and Soloist diplomas.

His teachers have included Sir James Galway, Peter-Lukas Graf, Anna Katharina-Graf, Felix Renggli and Aurèle Nicolet. He atended also Masterclasses with William Bennett, Emmanuel Pahud, Michel Debost, Jeanne Baxtresser, Maxence Larrieu, Patrick Gallois, Philippe Bernold, Robert Dick, Jean Claude Gerard, Roberto Fabricciani and Janos Balint at important Music Academies including Siena, Hammelburg, Nice, Sermoneta,Veszprem and Lucerne.

He performed in Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Grece, Poland, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and USA as a soloist and Chamber musician. Hernando Leal has appeared with various European and American Orchestras in Major Concert Halls as: Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth (Germany),Festpielhaus Bregenz (Austria) Royce Hall of Los Angeles (USA), Max Regger Halle(Germany), Salle Blanche of Lucerne, Casino of Bern and Opera of Lucerne (Switzerland), Idyllwild Arts Music Festival (USA), Brahms Saal (Germany), Rokoko Saal Bayreuth (Germany), University of Thesaloniki (Grece), Konzil Konstanz (Germany).

He performed the Carl Nielsen and Franz Doppler Concertos for Flute with the Lucerne Symphony at the New Concert Hall of Lucerne.

He has been guest performer at the National Flute Association (USA) in Orlando and New York, International Flute Festival of Quito (Ecuador) and Simposio Internacional de Flautistas of Lima (Peru).

He also played Flute and Piccolo with the Philharmonie Zentralschweiz, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester (Switzerland), Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie (Germany), International Festival Orchestra (California), Internationale Orchesterakademie (Germany) and took part of several CD recordings as well.

Hernando gived Masterclasses at the International Flute Festivals in Ecuador and Peru. He performed also with diferents Ensambles Latinamerican and Traditional music from Colombia. He has been prize winner at diferents Music Competitions as well for Traditional MusicContests and Festivals in Colombia.He also received the Carolina Oramas Scholarship and Special prize at the Mazda Young Musician Competition. He was semifinalist at the International Flute Competition in Krakow (Poland) and paticipated at the International Flute Competition Jean Pierre Rampal (Paris).

Hernando`s repertoire offers diferent Styles from Barock, Classic and Modern Music to the Colombian Folklore, Latin Music and improvisation.
