Romana Goumare is a freelance flautist, based in The Netherlands. She was born in Amsterdam and began her flute studies with Derek Moore and Koos Kamphuis. She graduated from The Royal Conservatory of the Netherlands as a student of Eline van Esch in 2001. Scholarships from the VSB Council and the Fund for Performing Arts enabled her to pursue further studies with Michael Cox and Kate Hill (flute) and Keith Bragg (piccolo) at The Royal Academy of Music in London. She obtained her postgraduate diploma with distinction and was awarded the Irene Burcher Memorial Prize for the best woodwind examination in 2002. She took part in master classes with Sebastian Bell, William Bennett, Jaime Martin, Patricia Morris and Jacques Zoon.
At the age of 12 she made her first appearance on national television as a soloist for the National Youth Orchestra of The Netherlands. As an orchestral musician she played with the National Youth Orchestra of The Netherlands, UBS Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, under renowned conductors like Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Frans Welser-Möst, Yan-Pascal Tortelier, Reinbert de Leeuw, Frans Brüggen, Ton Koopman en Marc Soustrot.
Currently she is a freelancer in orchestras like the Radio Chamber Orchestra, The Hague Bach Orchestra and Brabant Orchestra. As a chamber musician she has partnerships with a harpist and pianist. Romana is a member of the Darius Ensemble, which exists out of the combination of voice, flute, cello and piano.
She performed in festivals like The BBC Proms, Edinburgh Festival, Luzern Festival , Verbier Festival, Kurtag Festival, Salzburger Festspiele, during the European Platform for Young Musicians in Brussels and in concert halls like The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Berliner Philharmonie and Musikverein in Vienna.
