Mila Georgieva was born into a musical family in Bulgaria, on February 21, 1976. She began playing the violin at the age of four and even before she reached her teens she had a worldwide reputation, winning top prizes in competitions in Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia, touring in Spain, Holland, the Philippines, Singapore, India and China, appearing on Italian, French and Swiss television. Fittingly, her Grand Prize in Bologna, Italy, was named for another violin-playing prodigy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Miss Georgieva is studying with Cho-Liang Lin and the eminent Dorothy Delay at the Juilliard School in the United States.
As her performing career has grown, Miss Georgieva has performed with the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig under Kurt Masur, the orchestras of Belgian and Dutch Radio and Television, the Sofia Philharmonic and Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra, the Franz List Chamber Orchestra from Budapest and the RIAS Symphony Orchestra in Berlin. She has toured in Germany, South America and Japan where she recorded four CD's for RCA Victor.
Last season Miss Georgieva appeared as a soloist with the Bamberg Symphony under Georges Pretre, the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, and with various German Symphony Orchestras. She also performed at the Raster Festival in Salzburg and the Rising Stars Series at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.
This season Miss Georgieva has already appeared with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich under Richard Hickox and has toured France with the Orchestra National des Pays de la Loire under Herbert Soudain. During the summer, she participated in the Marlboro Music Festival, made her debut with the Houston Symphony, and performed with Christoph Eschenbach at the Ravinia Summer Festival. At the end of the summer, the Swiss Television filmed a musical portrait of her.
Among Miss Georgieva's upcoming engagements are concerts in Germany, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. She will also perform with the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg during their tour of United States. Later in the year, she will tour Japan and Korea.
