LJOVA (a.k.a. Lev Zhurbin) is a composer, arranger and violist. Basedin New York City, born in Moscow, he is the son of composer Alexander Zhurbin and the poet Irena Ginzburg.

Ljova's arrangements have been performed by Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, the Kronos Quartet, the multi-platinum Bond quartet, Lara St. John and the show 'Bowfire', among many others. He has composed more than seventy works, including compositions for orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz and Latin bands as well as over a dozen scores for film and theatre projects.

Recent commissions include orchestral works for the Staten Island Symphony, the Wild Ginger Philharmonic and the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble, as well as a chamber music commission from the American Composers Forum.

Ljova is an integral part of the Silk Road Project. He has performed, recorded, composed and arranged for the Silk Road Ensemble in
collaboration with NHK Japan on the 10-part television series 'Silk Road 2005'. Shot in HD, it is currently enjoying great success in
Japan.

As a violist, Mr. Zhurbin has appeared many times at New York's Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Merkin, and Town Hall, as well as at
Bargemusic and several international chamber music festivals. He has also appeared at the Living Room, Makor and Tonic, and has performed with jazz guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli, tap-dancer Savion Glover and Steven Bernstein's Millennial Mob, among others. Recently, he recorded and performed with saxophonist Assif Tsahar, and is collaborating with composers Osvaldo Golijov and composer/conductor Walter Thompson.

Ljova is a graduate of The Juilliard School where he studied with Samuel Rhodes.
