One of Ireland's leading harpists, Cliona Doris has extensive experience in solo recital, chamber music, orchestra and broadcasting. The Irish Times describes her playing as "stylish and communicative" and displaying " unaffected technical mastery." Her broadcasts include solo recitals on Minnesota Public Radio, BBC and RTE Lyric FM, and a concerto performance for BBC Television. As a concerto soloist, she has performed with the Indiana University Chamber Orchestra, English Symphony Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra. She has performed at the Sixth World Harp Congress, Seattle-Tacoma, USA, the 'Crossroads of Tradition Inter-American Twentieth-Century Music Festival, USA. Cliona has given solo recitals at the National Concert Hall Dublin, Royal Dublin Society, Mostly Modern Series Dublin, St Martin-in-the-Fields and St James's Piccadilly in London.
Born in Northern Ireland, Cliona graduated from The Queen's University of Belfast in 1992 with the B. Mus. Honours Degree. She continued her studies in the United States with the acclaimed harpist, Susann McDonald, at the world-renowned Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, where she graduated in 1997 with the Doctor of Music Degree in Harp Performance and Music Literature. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Marisa Robles Harp Prize (1998 Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition), Indiana University Concerto Competition, the 'Diploma di Merito' (Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Sienna, Italy), an Abbado European Young Musicians Trust Award and an Indiana University Fellowship.
