The Australian guitarist, Simon Powis enjoys a truly international career. In the past years he has performed throughout the United States, Sweden, Belgium, England, Germany, Austria, Spain, Canada, Liechtenstein, and of course his home country of Australia. Among the highlight of this past summer was a recital at the Darwin International Guitar festival and the Norfolk New Music Festival along with recitals in Sweden, Belgium, and New York City in the U.S. Simon studied with Raffaele Agostino at the Sydney conservatorium of music and also with Michael Lewin and Timothy Walker at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Following on from these studies Simon attended master classes with Ignacio Rhodes, Pavel Steidl, David Russell and Aniello Desiderio and was invited to undertake a winter residency at the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada. In 2006 Simon was offered a full scholarship to attend Yale University where he is currently completing his Masters degree with Ben Verdery. Now based in the United States and employed as a guitar teacher at Yale University Simon continues to promote Australian music and collaborates with Australian musicians and composers to further contribute to the music scene in Australia and the United States.
