Colin D'Cruz began playing music professionally on resident band contracts
with some of the finest hotels in India. Ten years of six nights a week gigs
laid the foundation for a long and chequered career in music. He preferred
working with different bands performing different styles of music and today
he is one of the few bassplayers around, who has played just about every
genre of music with just about every musician on the local circuit. He also
performed internationally on resident contracts in the middle-east and
Australia including a whole lot of worldwide concerts with local stars like
Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigam, Mehnaz, Shubha Mudgal, Apache Indian and Remo
Fernandes to name a few. His most recent international assignment was a four
country Asia-Pacific tour for Hennessy with a jazz ensemble called ŒSoul
Yatra‚. His most significant project so far is an indo-jazz
fusion ensemble he put together called The Brown Indian Band‚. This band
has some accomplished Indian classical musicians getting together with local
jazz virtuosos to produce a very funky sound of indo-jazz fusion. The band
performs original material most of which is composed by Colin. His open mind
and open ears towards evolving forms of rhythm, melody and harmony coupled
with a best is yet to come‚ philosophy, has seen him through almost three
eventful decades of live performance. The Brown Indian Band has been signed
on by Raga to Rock records who will release the band's debut album
