.......was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1943. He came from a musical family and started his musical education on the piano and violin, before changing to the double-bass in his mid-teens.

He has a great love for jazz and has been inspired by Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, and the Be-Bop players of the early 1950's.

He played extensively in New Zealand for Jazz, Chamber music and Symphony Orchestras, while studying for his Bachelor of Music Degree, graduating from Victoria University in Wellington.

He joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, NZSO, and played in the bass section before coming to London in 1967.

He studied in London with Stuart Knussen and became one of the first associate members of the London Symphony Orchestra, becoming a full member a year later.

Since the late 1960's he has played extensively in all musical fields, and has now been with the LSO. as section bass player, for more than thirty years. During this time he served for seven years as a director of the LSO. and more recently as the Musician's Union Steward.

The "other string to his bow" is running his string instrument dealership business, String Enterprises.
