The first two of these recordings included vocal contributions from the soprano Marilyn Hill Smith. The Society was closely involved with Marco Polo"s recent project to record the complete orchestral output of the "Waltz King" Johann Strauss II on 52 compact discs. Again with Marco Polo, the recording of a complete edition of the orchestral works of Josef Strauss, the talented brother of the "Waltz King", has just commenced, and plans are being formulated for the recording of some of the forgotten orchestral material of Johann Strauss I and the youngest brother, Eduard Strauss.
Members also enjoy various musical and social events throughout the year, and benefit from the dissemination of news and information through the Society's regular publications (a newsletter issued six times a year, and a magazine Tritsch-Tratsch ["Chit Chat"] printed twice a year). There are over 600 members world-wide.
The Society has also forged close links with the Johann Strauss Societies of Vienna, Sweden, France, Germany, Japan, Estonia, Italy, Southern Africa and Poland, and in July 1989, on the occasion of it's 25th anniversary, the Society hosted the 3rd International Strauss Symposium in London, attended by some 200 fellow enthusiasts from abroad. The occasion was further marked by a new Chandos recording in co-operation with the Society, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Georgiadis in works written by members of the Strauss family for their various visits to Great Britain (Johann Strauss and Family in London).
The Society always welcomes new members, and full details are available from the contact address below.
