American Tenor Edward Randall currently makes his home in Germany, where during the last twelve years he has sung over 700 performances in more than 35 new productions. As the leading tenor of The Chemnitz Opera, one of Germany's most respected "A" houses, his has made his reputation in the demanding German repertoire system as an outstanding singing actor spanning the repertoire from the vocally and physically demanding Erik in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer, to the psycholologically tormented Hoffmann in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann.
Other highlights include Max in Weber's Der Freischütz, Don José in Carmen, Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana, Alfredo in La Traviata and Macduff in Macbeth.
His large repertoire and extreme flexibility has made him a popular guest in over a dozen German opera companies in such cities as Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden. International operatic guest performances include Siegmund in Wagner's Die Walküre in concert with the Knoxville Symphony,Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser in Venice, Italy, Narraboth in Salome in Seville, Spain, Tamino in the award winning production of Die Zauberflöte with the Sakai Opera, Japan and in concert performances as Siegmund in Wagner's Die Walküre with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.
American audiences saw Mr. Randall as King David in the world premiere of Kurt Weill's Der Weg der Verheissung ( The Eternal Road) at New York's Brooklynn Academy of Arts and subsequently in Tel Aviv. Opera News wrote "Edward Randall sang David's initially amorous, then grieving Music in handsome, charged tones. „ In Chemnitz he recently added Erik in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer to his ever growing repertoire. Europe's premiere opera magazine "Opernwelt" said about his performance "… Edward Randall delivered as Erik secure, metallic, rising high notes."
Edward Randall is popular in the concert and oratorio repertoire. He has frequently performed Mendellsohn's Elijah, St.Paul and Lobgesang among other romantic works of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, a role he sang at the Amersham Music Festival in Eton, England. . He sang Bruckner's Te Deum in Berlin's Philharmonic Hall . In Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mozart's Requiem he was heard with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo's renowned Suntory Hall. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra invited him to sing Verdi's Requiem. Edward also enjoys singing contemporary music, espescially the works of Benjamin Britten. He sang The Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings in Tel Aviv with the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra. Les Illumination, Nocturnes, St. Nicholas Cantata and The Requiem are also among his favorites.
Randall's recordings with Radio Symphony Orchestras in Germany, the Chech Republic and the USA in such works as Dvorak's Stabat Mater, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Respihgi's Lauda per la Nativita, and Honegger's Le Roi David have broadened his audience and increased his popularity.
This past season he added Lenski in Tchaikovski's Eunen Onegin to his ever growing operatic repertoire. He also sang in a new production of The Tales of Hoffmann in the new Michael Kaye version a role which he has sung over 50 times. This coming season he continues to expand his repertoire in the Jugendlich Heldentenor Fach as he sings the title role in Wilhelm Kienzl's romantic opera Der Evangelimann. Also this season he will be singing Siegmund in Wagner's Die Walküre for the the first time on the stage.
