By the tender age of nine, Russell Scott, a London schoolboy, had developed a talent as a cabaret organist and made two LPs, which had totaled sales of over 100,000 copies. He had appeared on Thames TV's Telethon, helping to raise thousands of pounds for underprivileged children, entertained thousands in the UK, France, Germany and Eire, and guested on many radio and TV programmes, He studied music during his school years, passing examinations with The Royal Schools of Music and attending The Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.  After finishing his studies he developed into an all-round cabaret entertainer.  He presented and performed many shows across the country including a major summer season on Blackpool’s North Pier.

In 1995, after several years performing cabaret around the UK, Russell joined The London Philharmonic Choir where he performed many of the large-scale choral works including Verdi’s ‘Requiem’, ‘Aida’, Gershwin’s ‘Porgy & Bess’, Beethoven’s ‘‘Choral’ Symphony’, Vaughan Williams’ ‘Sea Symphony’, Berlioz’s ‘The Damnation Of Faust’ and ‘Requiem’ to name a few.  He also performed in several gala and musical theatre concerts which included Bryn Terfel, Reneé Fleming and José Carreras.

His smaller ensemble work included a Chandos recording of music by Sir Thomas Armstrong -  Russell was one of a small group of singers chosen to premiere several part-songs on disc conducted by Paul Daniel.  Russell sang regularly with the Exmoor Singers, performing works including Bach’s ‘St. John Passion’ and many chamber works from composers including Tippett, Rachmaninov, Tavener and Finzi. Exmoor Singers were winners of the Sainsbury’s Choir Of The Year competition.

As a soloist, Russell performed with the Avanti Chamber Orchestra as part of the Royal Festival Hall’s Meltdown Festival.  In the 1998 Resolution Festival, Russell was one of the four soloists performing works by Tavener, Duruflé and Tippett. Later that year he sang solo alongside Joan Rodgers in a performance of the Fauré Requiem with the London Philharmonic Choir.

Since turning fully professional in 1999, Russell’s chorus work has included singing regularly with The Geoffrey Mitchell Choir, The English Concert, The Choir Of The Age Of Enlightenment, The Richard Hickox Singers, London Voices, The Simon Joly Singers,  European Voices, The Maida Vale Singers, Netherlands Radio Choir  and Metro Voices.  In 1999, Russell played his first major opera role as Papageno in ‘The Magic Flute’, and sang the bass solo in a  performance of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Since then he has performed in Britten’s ‘Peter Grimes’, and solo roles including Shaunard in Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’ and as The Count in Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’.

In 2000, Russell was engaged by Readers’ Digest to provide a track to accompany an art video to be distributed in the US.  He performed ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from Carousel.  Later that year he provided backing vocals for Boney M’s Christmas album.  In the same year, he went on tour performing Bach’s ‘St. Matthew Passion’ with The English Concert in Spain and Germany. He has performed regularly at the BBC Proms including Handel’s ‘Messiah’, Mozart’s Requiem and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with The English Concert, Wagner’s ‘Parsifal’ with European Voices and Haydn’s ‘The Creation’ with OAE.  He has also done concert performances of Gershwin’s ‘Porgy & Bess’ with The Richard Hickox Singers in Cardiff and Swansea, and the solo in Mozart’s Requiem with BES. In 2001 highlights included a European tour with OAE performing Bach’s St. Matthew Passion conducted by Sir Roger Norrington and several recordings with The Geoffrey Mitchell Choir for Chandos and Opera Rara.  2002 was a busy year singing opera, oratorio and musical theatre, and included a performance of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex with London Voices. His musical theatre work this year included performances of 'On Your Toes' at the Brighton Dome Pavilion as well as 'Carousel' and 'Ragtime' at the 2002 Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre. He was also part of Elton John's recording of his musical based on the hit film Billy Elliot.  2003 included performances of Haydn's 'The Creation' with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in Basingtsoke and London, a recording for Seal's new album, Hayley Westenra’s debut album and film soundtrack recordings for ‘Sinbad’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Troy’. He also performed with Netherlands Radio Choir in Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass in Amsterdam and recorded and performed Mercadante’s ‘Emma Antichio’ with the LPO for Opera RaRa.  2004 has already included film soundtrack recordings for 'Troy' and 'Shrek2, a recording of 'Jerry Springer The Opera' and Opera Rara Recordings of 'Donizetti's 'Francesca di Foix' & 'Elvida'. In the Summer, Russell will be performing Stanford’s ‘Songs Of The Fleet’ and involved in three Opera recordings.  He already has solo engagements for 2005 including Faure’s Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Mass Solemnelle and his first solo performance in Bach’s ‘St. Matthew Passion’.
