Baritone Martin Matousek (born 1973), a prize-winner in the International Singing Competition in Trnava and the competition of Czech conservatories, came into contact with music via piano, clarinet, and saxophone, but at the Prague Conservatory he turned his attention to singing in the class of Prof. Alfred Hampel. Presently he is studying in this field at the College of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts <http://www.hamu.cz> with Prof. Miloslav Podskalsky. Despite his youth he has behind him a remarkable series of successes. He records for Czech Radio <http://www.rozhlas.cz> , and besides concert performances both at home and abroad (in Germany, Belgium, England, France, Switzerland, Japan, and elsewhere) he has sung for example the title role in Puccini's opera Gianni Schicchi, Mozart's Figaro, the Marquis in Verdi's La Traviata, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Fiorillo in Rossini's The Barber of Seville, and Marullo in Verdi's Rigoletto. With the Opera Studio of the Academy of Performing Arts he has performed in Fiser's Lancelot, Fibich's Helga, and Martinu's operas Comedy on the Bridge, The Voice of the Forest, and Plays about Mary. In 1997 he debuted as Purcell's Aeneas with the Plzen Opera <http://www.djkt-plzen.cz> , where he has since been a regular guest. Starting with the new season he is singing solo roles with the Municipal Theater in Usti nad Labem <http://194.108.147.90/php/internet/texty.php> . Actualy he is regular guest soloist of State Opera in Prague <http://www.opera.cz> .
