Acapulco Philharmonic

The Acapulco Philharmonic  Orchestra, came into being as project thanks to the efforts of the Government of State of Guerrero, Which has given impulse to a series of artistic and cultural programs, of which the creation of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the State School of Music, stand out far and above the rest.

The inaugural concert of our Philharmonic took place on May 2, 1998, in its official auditorium, the Juan Ruíz de Alarcón Theatre, of Convention Center of Acapulco. This prestigious musical institution has been integrated into the cultural programs that are administrered by Secretary of Social Development of the State Government.   

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Acapulco is a professional Symphonic Orchestra that is made up of 70 full-time master  muscians  that annually perform an average of 90 concerts in the State of Guerrero, as well as in other parts of the country.

On the 27th  of October of 1998 the civil award "Domingo Soler", the highest distinction that can be given by the Government of Guerrero, was awarded to the Philharmonic.   

The official stage of Acapulco´s orchestra is the Juan Ruiz de Alarcon Theatre, whit a capacity of 1,100 spectators, dressing rooms, orchestra pit, lighting system, and all the other necessary theatrical elements.  

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Acapulco has given more than 150 concerts up to the present date; among which some of the most notables have been those during the Festival Acapulco ´98; the traditional Alarconian Journals in Taxco de Alarcon; the Guerrero cultural expositions in México City; the Acapulco Millenium Festival ´99; Operamania; the French Film Festival the International Touristic Tianguis of México; and the 3rd Week of Guerrero Exposition in Chicago, Illinois, in March of this present year. 

The Philharmonic has invited guest directors such as Eugene Khon, Luis  Cobos  and Federico Alvarez del Toro; as well as distinguished soloist, such as Alfonso Moreno, Gonzalo Romeu, Horacio Franco, Viloeta Davalos, Placido Domingo, Anabel Ramirez, Oliva Gorra, Veronica Alexanderson, Oscar Samano, Sonia Amello, Teresa Correa, Juan Navarro, Fernando de la Mora, all of whom have performed with Acapulco´s Philharmonic Orchestra.
