Steve Tromans studied at Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating in 1997 with 1st Class Honours.  Since then he has built up a reputation for excellence ˆ both as a pianist and composer in a wide variety of musical situations ˆ contemporary classical, jazz, world and underground sounds.
In 2003 Steve was commissioned by arts organisation Birmingham Jazz to write an extended work for large forces and the resulting work, Howl & Other Poems ˆ a musical setting of the poetry of Allen Ginsberg for 8 players and narrator, was premiered to a near capacity audience at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham in January of 2004. Further  performances are already booked in 2005 at the StAnza Poetry Festival, St Andrews, and at the Cheltenham International Festival in March and May respectively.
In the summer of 2004 Steve was nominated for a NESTA Fellowship Award.
