Zuzana Simurdova was born in the Czech city of Ostrava, where her great –grandfather, a pupil of Leos Janacek founded the first music school - now named by him.
Having graduated from Janacek’s Conservatoire in Ostrava under Prof. M. Tugendliebova Zuzana continued her studies at Janacek’s Academy
of Music ( JAMU ) in Brno under Prof. V. Slavikova.
During her studies she received many scholarships for the International Summer Academies to cooperate with the Professors such as:
A. Cohen ( Great Britain ), P. Jasmin, E. Solar - Kinderman ( Canada ), E. Indjic ( France ), A. Kouyoumdjian ( Austria ), G. Kalish ( USA ),
G. Nador ( Hungary ), P. Toperczer ( Czech Republic ).
In 2001 Zuzana wan a Second Prize in the International Competition in London prior to undergoing a one year study period under Prof. Renna Kellaway at the University of Leeds as a part of the Socrates / Erasmus Programme.
In the same year Zuzana won an audition and joined the LUUMS Orchestra as a soloist. Together they performed the Grieg Piano Concerto in Leeds Town Hall and in St. Judith Church in Prague.
In 2003 Zuzana won the First Janacek Prize at the International Competition in Baden by Vienna.
Subsequent to her graduation from JAMU in 2004 ( with Chopin Piano Concerto e minor op. 11 with Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra in Besedni House, Brno ) Zuzana received a Sirius Grant to enjoy the class of Prof. A. M. Staehr of the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
In 2005 she became a Laureate of the UNESCO – Aschberg Bursaries ( Paris ) as well as Winner of the First Prize and J. Seidler Prize in the International
Anglo-Czechoslovak Trust Competition in London.
She was developing her piano studies in Artist Residency in Banff, Canada and also became the only Czech pianist to be invited to participate in the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warszaw 2005.
On December 2006 Zuzana became a permanent resident in Canada. She is living in Montreal and for 2007 is planning to record CD with Preludes a Un Pays Vrai by the Quebecian composer, J. Chatillon, for spring 2007 a world premiere performance + recording of the First Piano Concerto by J. Graham
in New York and for the winter the project Luminiscence.
