Pianist Tjako van Schie (1961 Coevorden)  is as well a much demanded performing artist, a musical paedagogue, and a composer. He teaches at the conservatories in Amsterdam and Porto (Portugal), and frequently performs solistical. He made several concert tours to a.o. China en Portugal where he performed a.o. Bach’s Golberg Variations  and Schumann’s Piano Concerto. With his own made arrangement of this concerto for the saxophone orchestra 'Orquesta Portuguesa de Saxofones' he also abroad received much acclaim. Remarkable was his tour with Gershwin’s 'Rhapsody in Blue' which he played with the 'Vento do Norte Ensemble'. As well his CD recording of the Goldberg Variations as the special solo CD with compositions inspired by 'Water' were praised in the press and media. Tjako's lyrical piano playing and honest arrangements of Jewish songs were noted especially on the CD recording he made with violinist Adriaan Stoet on EMI, entitled ’Shtil, di nakht iz oysgeshternt’. Tjako was student of famous music paedagogues like Ben Smits en Jacob Lateiner (New York) and graduated cum laude as performing artist. Besides playing the piano he also composes and arranges music: several of his works have been performed in public. Tjako is the accompanist of violinist Adriaan Stoet since 1987. He also performs regularly with bariton saxophonist Henk van Twillert. His website is http://www.tjakovanschie.com which contains photos, biography, info on concerts, music samples and info on his compositions.
