Adalberto Maria Riva graduated in piano with honours from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. He then attended master classes of Franco Gei, Viktor Merzhanov, Paul Badura-Skoda and Vitaly Margulis in Europe and in the U.S.A., as well as attending the Accademia Pianistica in Imola, where he studied with Franco Scala and Giovanni Valentini. In 2001 Riva obtained the Virtuosité at the Lausanne Conservatory of Music in the course of Dag Achatz.

Riva was a semifinalist in the Martha del Vecchio Piano Competition in Arenzano (Italy) and the Premio Venezia Competition and was a prizewinner in other Italian piano competitions, including the Selezione Giovani Pianisti Alberto Mozzati (1987 &endash; 1988), Concorso Schubert (1988) and the Città di Albenga (1991 &endash; 1992). He was also a prizewinner at the Cava dei Tirreni International Piano Competition (1993) and was awarded a scholarship from the Società Umanitaria in Milan in 1990.

Appearing as recitalist, chamber musician, and piano soloist in Italy and abroad, Adalberto Riva was awarded the A.R.A.M. prize in 1995 to underwrite a concert tour to Poland and Germany, and to take part in the Musica 2000 Review presented by CIDIM in Rome in 1996.

He has performed with the Angelicum and the Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano Orchestras, and has made several appearances with the Filarmonica Banatul in Timisoara (Romania) under the baton of Jean &endash; François Antonioli. During the recent year celebrating Mozart, Riva participated in the International Festival in Bergamo and Brescia, and was invited to perform at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

In addition to his performance activities, Riva teaches in a music school in Italy and was invited as assistant of his professor Dag Achatz in the EPTA summer school in Dubrovnik in 2000. Actually he is studying at the "Guido Cantelli" Conservatory of Music in Novara (Italy), with professor Ettore Borri.
