BRIAN-MICHAEL PARNELL was born in Yorkshire and educated there and in Germany. He studied with the noted teacher Nora Claye, then, from the age of sixteen, at The Royal Academy of Music, London. He then received a Postgraduate Scholarship to study at Le Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris. His teachers were Max Pirani and Harold Craxton (London), and Vlado Perlemuter (Paris). He was selected, whilst in Paris, to participate in a series of masterclasses given by Artur Rubinstein. Brian made his London debut at the age of nineteen at Wigmore Hall, London
Brian has played concertos with many of the leading orchestras in the UK and Europe and has broadcast on BBC, ORTF, WDR, RAI. He performs regularly in London and Europe (Paris, Berlin, Geneva, Luxembourg, Milan, Amsterdam, etc) and has toured USA, South America (Brazil & Argentina), Singapore, Malaysia & Philippines and South Africa.
In recent years, Brian has favoured the Chamber Music and Art-Song repertoires. Among the artists with whom he has recently shared the concert platform are: Vivian Tierney, Christine Bunning, Hannah Francis (sopranos), Michael Kirby (clarinettist), I Musici di Sestri-Levante (Italy), Christian Eislinger (cellist).
Brian is fluent in French and German and this has led him to work extensively with singers, especially in the field of Art-Song. Recently, under the guidance and patronage of the noted Latvian mezzo-soprano Gaida Trezina, he has become actively involved in the resuscitation and promotion of the nineteenth and early twentieth century vocal repertoire of the Baltic State of Latvia.
He holds the position of Chef-de-Chant, in an advisory capacity, at LÕOpéra de Chambre de France en Résidence à Menton.
