Greek pianist, Anastasios Pappas, began piano studies with his mother and continued with Maria Chairogiorgou at the Athens Conservatory were he was awarded first prize when he graduated with the highest degree.
As a "British Council" fellow and under the "Gina Bachauer" and "Rotary of North Athens" scholarships, he continued his postgraduate studies at the "Royal Academy of Music" in London with V. Latrache and F. Wibaut. He graduated with distinction, obtaining the "Diploma of Advanced studies with Merit" and the "L.R.A.M." diploma.
He is a prizewinner in various competitions in U.S.A., Italy, England and Greece, and has been awarded with the "Michael Radick Memorial Fund" at an international competition in New York, which led him to his debut recital at "Carnegie Hall" in November 1996, receiving accolades from the critics.
The "New York Concert Review" magazine refers to Mr. Pappas as "a true musician and a remarkable instrumentalist", while his performance of the Khachaturian piano concerto at the "Ateneum Roman" with the "Enescu Philharmonic" commended upon as the "event of the concert series" that year.
He has been a soloist with the "Athens State Orchestra", the "Orchestra of the Colors", "the Camerata of Athens" the "Patras Soloists" Chamber Orchestra, the "Camerata Budapest", the "R.A.M. London Symphony Orchestra", the "London Sinfonietta", the "London Soloists Chamber Orchestra", the "Budapest Festival Orchestra", the "George Enescu Philharmonic", the "Philharmonia Moldavia", the "Cluj Philharmonic" and the "Orquestra do Norte" of Portugal.
The conductors he has collaborated with are, among others, John Georgiades, Ivan Fischer, Diego Masson, Daniel Switcher, Alexandru Lascae, Emil Simon, Alexander Myrat and Saulius Sondeckis.
In May 1998 he appeared as a soloist in a gala concert at the "Megaron of Music" in Athens, with the "Orchestra of Colors" under conductor Steven Lipsitt, winner of the First "Dimitry Mitropoulos" international competition for conductors. He also gave the first performance of the Khachaturian Piano Concerto in Romania at the "Ateneum Roman". In June of the same year, he appeared at the opening concert of the "Patras International Festival" with the "Athens Camerata" performing a Thanos Mikroutsikos Concerto. He also gave the premier performance of the "Alfred Schnittke Piano concerto" in Greece.
He has performed in Italy, Spain, Portugal, U.S.A., Romania, England, Holland and Greece. He has also performed for radio stations in London (Classic FM), New York (W.Q.X.R.) as well as for the Greek and American TV.
During1999 and 2000 he completed two tours in Holland, performing in all major cities.
Anastasios performs regularly contemporary piano concertos. Many Greek composers have composed and dedicated works especially to him. He performed the world premier of the Theodore Antoniou Piano Concerto with the "London Sinfonietta" in Athens, the "Concertino for piano and strings" by Kyriakos Sfetsas and also Paul Hindemith "Four Temperaments".
