The International Society for the Study of Tension in Performance was formed in September 1961 in response to an over-whelming concern with the debilitating effects of excess anxiety and tension experienced by performers in many areas such as music, the theatre, the sports, public debate and the like.
The objects of the society are:
To collect and disseminate information
To foster research and related activities
To provide an advisory service for members
Membership permits attendance at conferences at reduced fees; receipt of Newsletter and the journal of the Society which will contain information about the study of tension in performance; access to the advisory service.
Conferences and workshops have been organised from time to time in the United Kingdom, North America and in Europe.
Copies of past journals may be purchased from the secretary (£3.50 each). Numbers 1 - 8 available.
Also:
Tension in Performance £8.00. A selective Bibliography with over 300 titles.
ISSTIP has established the first Performing Arts Clinic at the London College of Music offering free consultation to music students.
