PAUL HARRIS...is a London based Choreographer, Movement Director and Dance Teacher, who has choreographed Hollywood movies, BAFTA winning dramas and critically acclaimed theatre. His area of expertise is very broad and covers Period and Historical Dance, Tango, Salsa, Swing, Latin American, Ballroom Dancing, Movement Direction and Theatre Dance. He has extensive experience in collaborating with Composers and Musical Directors and he is one of the UK's most prolific Choreographers and Movement Directors.
In film and television, he choreographed the iconic laser sequences for Catherine Zeta-Jones in 'Entrapment', as well as the BBC's BAFTA winning 'Bleak House' and 'The Way We Live Now', the BAFTA nominated 'To The Ends of The Earth', and 'The Sins' and he has also choreographed episodes of many of British television's most successful dramas including 'A Touch of Frost', 'Poirot' My Family', 'William and Mary' 'The Quest' and he was also responsible for the Tango choreography in Disney's 'Cheetah Girls 2'.
High profile productions choreographed by Paul Harris to be released in 2007 include 'The Other Boleyn Girl' with Scarlett Johansson as Mary Boleyn, Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn and Eric Banaas Henry V111' of England, 'Inkheart', starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and the BBC's new production of Jane Austin's 'Sense and Sensibilty'. Most notably, Paul choreographed the wand combat sequences for the forthcoming 'Harry Potter and The Order of The Pheonix', by creating a physical language for the use of the wand and developing this into the movie's set choreographed pieces.
In theatre, Paul Harris choreographed the critically acclaimed 2007 revival of 'The Entertainer' at Londons Old Vic theatre, he was a guest Dance Teacher for The Royal Shakespeare Company on 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' and has choreographed productions of 'David Copperfield', 'As You Like It', Dancing At Lughunasa', 'The Rivals', Mill on The Floss', 'The American Clock' and 'Wallflowering' He was also the Movement coach for the character of Fokine in 'Flight of The Swan' - the story of the relationship between Anna Pavlova and Micheal Fokine - with Fokine's Granddaughter, (Isabelle Fokine), playing Anna Pavlova.
Paul Harris is a Dance Teacher at the Actors Centre in London, as well as Central Scool of Speech and Drama, The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts and Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. He wrote the syllabus for the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing (UKA) in 19th and 20th Century Social Dance, that foms the basis of all three colleges dance module of the BA(Hons) or MA in Acting. In addition to this, he is the author of 'Salsa and Merengue - The Essential Step by Step Guide' an influential Salsa instruction book, which is the basis of the the Salsa syllabus of the UKA, the IDTA, the BATD and the NATD. (Awarding dance bodies in England and Wales). He has choreographed for World Champions in Ballroom Dancing, Salsa and Argentine Tango and coached several of the Professional Dancers on Britain's 'Strictly Dance Fever' and 'Strictly Come Dancing' - on which he has appeared as a guest celebrity dance coach. He was also the main Mentor/Dance teacher for 'Kick Boxer to Dancer' episode of 'Faking It' (UK version), which won both the BAFTA Award and the Golden Rose of Montreaux.
He is a Fellow and Examiner of the United kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing an Honorary Member of The British Association of Teachers of Dancing and an Honoraray Lifetime Member of The Philippine Professional Dance Teachers Association - where he has worked to develop dance as well as in Indonesia and Thailand.
