He has conducted both French and international first performances of several modern composers and has made numerous recordings for BBC Radio and Radio France, for television and various record companies. He has so far been awarded three "best recording" prizes. In 1984 he founded the Piccardie Orchestra in France, which he conducted till 1989 earning himself a reputation as an interpreter of Mozart.
He recently conducted the Belgium National Orchestra, the Liege Symphony Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Sinfonietta, the Ulster Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the Israel Sinfonietta. He has appeared in Paris invited by the Orchestre Colonne and in Vienna with the United Philharmonic. For three consecutive years he directed the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and was awarded the "best orchestra" and "best recording" prizes at the 1994 International Vienna Competition.
Among his first performances are Thanos Mikroutsikos's «Helen's Homecoming», Guitar Concerto and «Music for violin, piano and strings» along with works by Alkis Baltas (opera «Momo»), Vanghelis Petsalis, Yorgos Koumentakis', Pericles Koukos and Konstantia Gourzi. He also conducted the world premieres of John Tavenner's «Agraphon» and Sergio Calligaris's «Concerto for violin and piano». Since 1991 he has been the artistic director and permanent conductor of the Camerata-the Friends of Music Orchestra.
...........was born in the Greek city of Volos in 1950. In 1966 he settled in Paris where he studied conducting under Igor Markevich, Nadia Boulanger and Max Deutsch. At twenty he started a mainly European career, conducting in France, Belgium, Greece, Bulgaria and Italy. In 1976 he won the Gino Marinucci Competition and conducted the first performance of Darius Milhaud's Oresteia. In 1977 he took up French nationality and has since conducted the most prestigious French orchestras.
