Peter's début as a Choral Conductor was in 1997 when he conducted Britten's St Nicholas in St John's Smith Square, London with the Academic Scholars. Since then Peter has been in demand as a choral trainer and conductor both nationally and internationally, working with such choirs as the BBC Singers; the National Youth Choir of Great Britain; and the Musikhochschule Choir, Stuttgart, Germany. Peter originally studied choral conducting with Colin Durrant, Therese Hibbard and Bob Chilcott and is currently continuing his study whilst pursuing his PhD in Choral Education with Dr Colin Durrant at the Institute of Education University of London, where he is investigating choral gesture, conductor socialisation and nonverbal communication. He has already published papers and articles on choral conducting and music education, many of which can be viewed online.
Formerly, Peter was a lecturer in Music Education and Head of Choral Conducting for the MA Choral Education course at Roehampton University, West London. However, more recently, Peter continues to be visiting lecturer in Music Education and Voice Management at both Christ Church University, Canterbury; the University of Kent at Canterbury; and acts as choral pedagogy teaching assistant for the course 'Choral Conducting, Leadership and Communication' at the Institute of Education, University of London.
Since 2006 Peter has been a guest conductor of the Kent Youth Choirs and each year conducts the three day residential Junior Singers Course at Benenden School in Kent.
Peter regularly conducts Faversham Choral Society; the Deal and Walmer Handelian Society; The Oratory Singers; and a group of soloists 'The Well-Tempered Singers' . The Oratory Singers will release a commercial Cd in 2008 of 'Olivet to Calvary' by Henry Maunder.
Peter works with choirs of all sizes, abilities and ages, and he is particularly keen on working with younger singers, developing their musical and choral education through performance.
