Sophocleous Charalambos has recently finished his M.M in Music Composition at the University of South Carolina. At the age of nine, he made his first steps into music. He started private Accordion lessons, Theory and History lessons at the Hellenic Conservatory of Music in Cyprus. He graduated with honors in all fields.

His first composition was a Christmas song called 'Rebirth' (1992), for Chorus and Recorders. At the age of fifteen he joined the Lakatamia Philharmonic Band, becoming the leading Clarinet player.

Going to high school, he continued his music education, giving more importance to composition. His second composition was a song called 'Makarie' (1994) for Chorus, oboe, clarinet, electric bass and piano.

During the following year, high school musicians performed his third piece called 'Swing' (1995) for flute, oboe, clarinet, violin and cello.

After graduating from high school, he joined the Army. In 1996 he joined the Army`s Music Philharmonic Band as a Clarinet, Percussion and Piano player. Discharging from the Army in 1997, he moved to Chicago continuing his music education at Roosevelt University pursuing his B.A degree in Music Composition. He graduated with honors in Fall 2001.

He studied Composition with major musicians like: Robert Lombardo, Pat Morehead and Stacy Garrop.He also attended Master Classes with the conductor of the Chicago Civic Orchestra Cliff Colnot.

In 2002, he moved to USC South Carolina pursuing his Master Degree.He studied composition under John Fitz-Roger and electronic composition under Reg Bain.He graduated with honors in Fall 2003.

His Master Thesis "Edge of Perception" won the 2002 USC Saxophone Competition, and is currently being performed worldwide.

His major compositions are the following:

Starting from 1997 writing his "Solo for Cello", "Prelude for Piano Clarinet and Bongo"s (1998), "Cube Ensemble" for Oboe, clarinet, viola and piano (1999), "Five Two-Part Inventions" for Bassoon and Oboe (1999), "Brass Trio" for Trumpet, Trombone and French Horn (1999), "Four small piano pieces" (2000), "String Quartet #1" (2000), "Exodus" for Mixed Ensemble and Chorus (2001), "Edge of Perception" (Winner of the 2002 USC Saxophone Quartet Competition), "Illusions" computer-generated composition with animation (2003),"Kalamatianos" for full orchestra (2004), and "Percussive Cyprus" for amature percussive group (2004).

He is currently an active member of the band "Urbantraffic" (1994- ) and a recent member of CCA "Cyprus Composers Association".
