Born in 1945, Jonathan spent the early part of his life in Bath, taking up the cello at the age of fifteen. Whilst a student in Yorkshire he studied with Brian Greensmith and then continued his studies at Reading University where he took composition lessons with Andrew Byrne, and for a while, with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. He also had conducting tuition with George Hurst and John Carewe. His teaching career began in Southampton, continued in Bruton, Somerset, moved to Bermuda and finally settled in Bristol, UK, where he is at present Director of Music at Clifton High School.
All his musical scores are now produced using "Sibelius 7 Software"
Diversions for Strings. Five contrasting movements (20 mins). Commissioned by South West Arts.
In Freedom's Name. A dramatic cantata, celebrating the 300th. anniversary of the Monmouth Rebellion. Full orchestra, male voice choir, tenor and bass soli and audience participation. Commissioned by Somerset Orchestral Society.
Praise to St. Cecilia. For female voices and organ. (For use on the 22nd. November each year).
Cantata Europa. For full orchestra, mixed chorus, soprano and tenor soli. Commissioned by Wincanton Arts Association. (40 mins.)
A Mass for our Time. (Unison setting for liturgical use).
The Five Joys of the Virgin Mary. For female voices, nine part brass ensemble and organ. (25 mins.) Modern and Mediaeval in style.
Bombshells. A two hour stage musical. Winner of the Six Counties Festival in 1988.
Fanfarade. For full orchestra.
Three Funtasias on Christmas Carols. For small orchestra. Ideal for December/January concerts.
Dance Suite. For wind band. Three movements (12 mins.).
Junior Jazzlets. For young orchestras.
Cool Concert Pieces. For intermediate double-bass players, eg:- "Lullablue", "Low Down Groove", "From the Heart of the Bottom", etc.
