Alexander Lunev known to his closest friends, as “nomad” is a self-taught, highly prolific Russian music composer and producer was born on 28thJune 1967.
He grew up in a town called Pavlodar, situated on the banks of the Irtysh River in Kazakhstan, a former republic of the USSR where the only available music at the time was communist propaganda and WWII-era songs. The relatively obscure state was recently propelled on the worldwide map by the hilarious comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen, with his successful and controversial comic character known as Borat the spurious Kazakh reporter.
Alex’s rise to the top is a story of hardship and constant struggle, but his intense passion for music never diminished, it was his panacea when in pain, and his sustenance during deprivation. After many often very tough nomadic years (hence his nickname), Alexander moved his family to Moscow in 1995. The move and living in the big metropolis wasn’t made any easier, however his artistic development was never in doubt despite great difficulties in life.
He eventually became successful within Russia, highly unusual for a Russian musician to achieve such a high level of success in a short period of time! As a leading innovator of intricate, melodious sounds, his style and musical talent is influencing countless new pop artists.
Alexander composes the right blend of harmonic electronic music, spiced up with “shamanic” drum beats and rock guitar in a number of unusual yet innovative styles and arrangements, but more often than not his music can be described as a mix of pop music, rhythms tinged with folk/rock which distinguish him in a very intimate and authentic way, with an unforgettable artistry that is varied, intricate yet thrilling.
Although Alexander, who can take any style of music and give it a special twist to suit, was quite young when he started thinking of building a music career for himself, his love of music and musical performances remain unmatched and he is now widely considered as arguably Russia’s leading pop music composer. He has earned a reputation for skilfully blending lush electronic progressive genre instrumentation by integrating futuristic sounds into pulsating harmonies.
Alexander has not emerged in today’s mainstream music scene by pure accident or pure coincidence, but he deservedly earned it through sheer dedication and grit as a composer and producer with an excellence of execution that is nothing short of astonishing, a trend that will no doubt continue to blossom in many years to come. Since his debut as a composer, Alexander has had numerous successful songs with melt-away lyrics toping the national charts, recording a movie soundtrack, a rock-opera “Prodigal Son” based on classical evangelic texts and receiving various other musical awards.
He's likeable and loved by the thousands simply because he reacts naturally and appreciates his fans. He knows the power that fame brings, but remains humble, hopelessly sweet and is entirely down to earth at heart.
After ten years of jamming and touring, Alexander’s breakthrough came perhaps quite unexpectedly at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest by masterminding the winning hit song: "Never Let You Go", or was it simply as a direct result of the impact the extreme energy, exuberance and vitality his music reflects? What ever it was, it certainly was not a fluke as he went on to win other major music awards the same year marking important benchmarks in his ever-expanding career.
Alexander in collaboration with pop-star singer Dima Bilan for whom he created a number of impressive arrangements such as: “Lady Flame” and “Impossible, But Possible” further testimony of his boundless talent, have contributed in generating fervour amongst a discerning public in many different countries where his music was described as being simply 'awesome'. With Alexander’s song, Bilan won the MTV’s World Music Award 2006 aired on 17.02.2007 hailed as “Best-Selling Artist” in company of such superstars as Nelly Furtado, Michael Jackson, Beyonce and others.
Furthermore, other inspiring compositions and songs have already gathered intense interest on radio stations across Europe. His instrumental sound titled "Through the Eyes of the Eagle" is yet another infectious musical masterpiece, and is fast catching the attention of a worldwide audience. Paradoxically, despite his growing fame in some countries, Alexander remains relatively unknown globally, probably as a result of his songs being sung almost exclusively in Russian. Be that as it may, on June 12, 2006 Alexander Bard, the famous Swedish producer and creator of “Army Of Lovers”, extolled his namesake during a recent appearance on Russian TV and praised Alexander by saying: “Alexander is perhaps the brightest star on the Russian musical scene… his music is truly astonishing …”.
Alexander Lunev is worthy of catching the attention of a major record label, the poise, the prodigious skill, the music – it’s all there. ..
