Kim began playing the violin at age 7, took up the guitar and dropped the violin (although he kept the bow) at 13, and spent his early teens trying to become Jimmy Page. Rescued from a life in prog rock by Dr Feelgood, Kim signed up for the punk wars having seen Wilko Johnson prove that a Telecaster could be a lot more exciting than a Pantechnicon full of guitar effects. After several years of punk, new wave, psychobilly and ska, in garages, rehearsal studios, and a short and very depressing time in someone's completely black front room, Kim decided that life in a sweaty transit van with 3 blokes he hated wasn't a sensible career goal, so he set off on a path towards film music and movie composer superstardom.

Somewhere along the way he seemed to have picked up how to play keyboards and sax, and he went to the London International Film School to find out how difficult writing to picture really was. Having scored several prizeb winning shorts at the Film School, kim inflicted his music on the waiting world in such classics as "The Thames Path", "CGX - the Awards Show", "The Television Show", "Pakex - the Movie" and the now legendary "A Time To Manage (Inland Revenue Training Department)". He also worked with Clive Langer on the music for feature film Still Crazy, arranged strings for Virgin Records signed band The Family of Free Love and worked with Rat Scabies on songs and pieces, as well as becoming experienced writing music for theatre, music for television, and sound design and music for video and multimedia projects.

At some point he obviously earned some money, as he built his own studio under the Heathrow flight path and equipped it with as many weird instruments as he could think of, including a Waterphone, a Mandocello, an Autoharp, and lots of guitars. A chest full of itchy and scratchy percussion is also available, mainly to keep small children (and Kim) amused.

Visitors to the studio have included the afore-mentioned Rat Scabies, author Jeanette Winterson, the legendary Nick Lowe, and assorted other like-minded folk. Meanwhile, Kim continues on his quest for a small golden statue through work in the media/music/electronic interface (as one of his tutors once called it - film music to us normal mortals!)
