Since 1998, when Diana Shapira and Stanislava Varshavsky started to play together the Varshavsky-Shapira Piano Duo became one of the most renowned contemporary piano duos. They won number of the most prestigious national and international competitions, such as:
- 2004 - The Grand Prize at the 15th Piano Competition "Rome 2004" (two pianos section) in Rome, Italy.
- 2004 - 1st prize at the 15th Piano Competition "Rome 2004" (one piano four hands section) in Rome, Italy.
- 2004 - 1st prize at the "Kol HaMusica" Young Artists Competition" in Jerusalem, Israel.
- 2003 - 1st prize at the 13th Schubert Competition in Jesenik, Czech Republic.
- 2001, 2003 - Finalists of the Murray Dranoff Competition in Miami, US.
- 2000 - 1st prize at the Israel Chamber Music competition in Jerusalem, Israel.
- 2000 - 1st prize at the Sharon Tabor-Printz Competition (performed with an orchestra) in Jerusalem, Israel.
- 2000 - 3rd place at the ARD Competition in Munich, Germany.
- 1999 - 1st prize and two special prizes for the best performance of Chopin's Rondo op. 73 and Lutoslawsky's "Paganini variations" at the International Piano Duo Competition in Bialystok, Poland.
The ensemble participated in international festivals and performed solo recitals in Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, Italy, Poland, Russia and South Africa. A number of their performances were also broadcast on radio throughout the world.
The Varshavsky-Shapira Piano Duo appeared with number of well-known orchestras such as the Radio Orchestra in Munich, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra and Moravian Chamber Orchestra.
The duo recorded for Israeli National Radio pieces by Rachmaninoff, Mozart, Stravinsky, C. Saint-Saens and O. Messiaen, and for Bavarian Radio pieces by Mozart and Reger.
Stanislava Varshavsky (1974) was born in Kharkov, Ukraine. She started her music education in Kharkov Special Music School and continued it at Kharkov Music Academy. After the graduation, she proceeded with her studies at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in the classes of Prof. Monastirsky, Prof. Tamir ˆ Prof. Eden.
Diana Shapira (1977) was born in Moscow, Russia. She graduated from Tchaikovsky Conservatory College in 1996 and then continued her studies at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in the classes of Prof. Berkovich, Prof. Tamir ˆ Prof. Eden.
