Cellist Guido Schiefen and Pianist Eric Le Van debuted as a duo in 2000 in the International Franz Liszt Festival in France. In the same year, their first recording together of Liszt's Complete Works for Cello and Piano for BMG-Arte Nova was awarded Best Chamber Music of the Year by the prestigious Neue Musik Zeitung. It has been reissued since on Oehms Classics.

This unique duo has moved audiences with their intense and personal playing. They are often reinvited to important festivals and concert series throughout Europe and the United States, including the Bayreuth Festival, the Franz Liszt Festival in Weimar, the BeethovenFest in Bonn, Les Dominicains in Guebwiller (France), the Rhein-Sieg Kammermusik Festival in Germany, the Barocksaaal in Tegernsee, the Siemens Concert Series in Munich, the Mettlach Festival, the Principia Concerts and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Chamber Music series in the U.S.A. as well as the Van Buuren Museum in Brussels.

CD Reviews:

"Without the consummate artistry and hand-in-glove collaboration heard here, of course, these transcriptions would be merely another interesting novelty dredged from Liszt's sprawling, labyrinthine catalog--Schiefen and Le Van have given us performances to live with and thereby made a significant contribution to the Liszt discography. And the use of the unique, mellow, 1873 Bayreuth Steingraeber piano, said to have been played by Liszt himself, confects a final elegance. Transparently immediate sound. Fine annotations by Le Van. Superbly realized. And enthusiastically recommended."
- Adrian Coreonis, Fanfare Magazine

"An astounding and immaculate interpretation... Highly recommended."
- Crescendo Magazine, Munich

"The cellist conjures up these images with halting gestures in the elegies, with swelling vibrato and freedom elsewhere. Eric Le Van coaxes light, bell-like tones from the Liszt grand piano in Bayreuth."
- Klassik-Heute

"Pianist Le Van here is better than on any chamber music of these pieces. So is the sound. [...] If you love the cello, you may want this recording."
- Donald Vroon, The American Record Guide

Concert reviews:

"Schiefen avoided all sentimentality in favor of emotional depth while Pianist Eric LeVan contributed with perfect technique and feeling to a resounding success."
- Saarbrucker Zeitung

"Through their inimitable automnal sound... Eric Le Van and Guido Schiefen perfectly captured the fin de siecle style of Franz Liszt's late works."
- Bayreuth Zeitung, "Time Travel into the Soul of Late Liszt"

"These two superlatively gifted musicians celebrated Liszt's extraordinary music for cello and piano, evoking a realm situated somewhere between earth and Heaven... Eric Le Van, one of the most sought-after pianists of the younger generation, was the ideal partner for Guido Schiefen."
- Kolner Rundschau

"... a concert of the highest calliber, of the widest ranging expression and depth... tremendous applause!"
- Munich Suddeutsche Zeitung

"The audience remained transfixed as the final notes evaporated, utterly fascinated, finally breaking into overwhelming applause."
- Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger

"Schiefen and Le Van proved themselves a wonderfully balanced duo. Eric Le Van is always sensitive and penetrating, while Schiefen's cello could be likened to the tender and nuanced vibrato of a great violinist."
- Rheinsig-Sieg Anzeiger

"Guido Schiefen, in his incredibly poetic rendition of these works, plays with a passion of a breathtaking kind - a force of character rarely attained. In perfect symbiosis with him, Eric Le Van brings out discreetly this enchanting reverie."
- L'Alsace, France
