Andy Derrick was born in Bristol, UK in 1973. Starting violin at the age of 8 and Trombone at 11, Andy had a keen interest in music. Encouraged to listen and perform in a wide range of style by teacher John Berry, Andy quickly became a part of many orchestra, brass ensembles and dance bands in the Bristol area.
When he was 19, he moved to Birmingham to take a music degree on Bass Trombone. Whilst there he worked with the Brunel Ensemble including 2 CD recordings and many premieres of new music by British composers.
On graduating in 1996 Andy has worked as a Bass Trombone player for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Da Camera, English Symphony Orchestra, and as a Tenor Trombone player for East of England Orchestra, Fat Chops Big Band, Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra, NYJO, Paris Conservatoire Jazz Orchestra, and the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
Andy now works as a professional freelance trombonist in the UK, a composer published by Warwick Music, band leader and a private teacher.
Andy plays a Michael Rath R1G Tenor Trombone.
